OCR: Accidental gravity is more difficult to define. Nicole Oresme, one of Leonardo's most sophisticated medieval sources, stated that the denser the material, the heavier it is, and gravity attracts the heaviest materials to the center of the world. In Leonardo's usage, accidental gravity pertains to an object in motion-for instance, when a spinning top maintains its equilibrium, the center of its accidental gravity is the central axis. The same principle can be applied to any irregularly shaped object: when the object is spinning in equilibrium, its accidental gravity is centered.
